Oktoberfest Crown

The Miss La
Crosse/Oktoberfest
competition will be 7
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24,
at Valhalla in the
University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse's
Cart-wright Center.
The event's theme is
"Bits from Flicks," with
1997 Miss La
Crosse/Oktoberfest Polly
Steffes Pappadopoulos as
emcee. Entertainment
will include Dan Hefti
and Brian Schroeder.
Contestants will vie for
more than $12,000 in
local scholarship money.
Tickets are $12 and are
available from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. daily at the
Oktoberfest office at La
Crosse and Second
streets. Tickets also
can be purchased the
evening of the event at
the Cartwright Center. A
reception will be held
after the pageant.
The contestants are:
Amber Brand, daughter of
Michelle Brand and John
Inglis, vocal
performance, "Reach."
She attends Viterbo
University. Her platform
is opening eyes to
discrimination.
Beth Bruzek, daughter of
Katherine and David
Bruzek, ballet to "You
Raise Me Up." She is a
graduate of Viterbo
University. Her platform
is eating disorders
awareness.
Melissa Genz, daughter
of Gayle and Gary Genz,
dance twirl performance
to "Millennium." She
attends UW-L. Her
platform is blood
donation.
Kristina Gross, daughter
of Carol and Gary Gross,
vocal performance, "Gimme,
Gimme." She attends
Viterbo University. Her
platform is diabetes
awareness.
Traci MacKinnon,
daughter of June and
John MacKinnon, dance
twirl performance to
"Sing, Sing, Sing." She
attends UW-L. Her
platform is English as a
second language.
Mandy Nogle, daughter of
Nanette and Tom Nogle,
ballet performance to
"Let's Get Loud." She
attends UW-L. Her
platform is opening
doors to youth in the
community.
Erin Peterson, daughter
of Kris and Steven
Peterson, piano
performance of "Aufschung/Soaring."
She attends UW-L. Her
platform is music and
