Oktoberfest Medallion
hunt starts Monday
By Autumn Grooms
The elusive Oktoberfest
Medallion will soon be
hiding somewhere in the
city, waiting for a
seeker with a cunning
mind to find it.
The silver treasure
could be under a bush
near the Health Science
Center or at the base of
a lilac bush in Copeland
Park.
It could also be in the
South Community
Library’s bushes or
hidden behind a tree on
the La Crosse River
Marsh trail.
But these aren’t really
clues, as any true
medallion hunter will
tell you.
They are simply the last
four places Coulee
Region hunters have
found Oktoberfest’s most
sought after prize.
Where the 2007
Oktoberfest Medallion
will be is anybody’s
guess.
But — with a little
intelligent decoding — a
lucky treasure chaser
could claim his or her
reward as early as
Monday morning, after
the first of 10 daily
clues in Wipfli’s
Oktoberfest Medallion
Hunt is published in the
La Crosse Tribune and
online at both
www.lacrossetribune.com
and
www.oktoberfestusa.com.
Local radio stations
will also broadcast the
clues daily until the
medallion is found.
The 2006 Oktoberfest
Medallion was found
quickly at the Health
Science Center by the
17-member Manson family
after only the third
clue was released.
Some medallion hunter’s
cried conspiracy. Others
chalked it up to another
year of family fun.
In 2005, it took Tom
Lawrynk and his children
six clues to locate the
medallion in Copeland
Park.
